I am excited about this blog post! There are so many reasons that I am ALWAYS excited to shoot Whist Weddings! First of all, this venue just feels like home as it is almost quite literally in my backyard. The Tilton Mansion (home of the Whist Weddings) sits in the Cool Spring/Tilton Park neighborhood (which happens to be one of the BEST neighborhoods in Wilmington, Delaware if you ask this humble resident). Also, I really love the history of the Tilton Mansion (You can learn more about that here). Historic homes and venues have that extra element of character that just can’t be matched. And undoubtedly, this mansion is simply a gorgeous venue. With recent indoor renovations, and the Carriage House restoration, it is now better than ever.
Margaret Reilly is the wedding and social event coordinator at The Tilton Mansion. She is another reason that I love working at this Wilmington venue. Margaret has a ton of experience working with engaged couples – and therefore, she knows what it takes to make a wedding day run smoothly! I recently had an opportunity to ask her some questions so that you can get to know her (and Whist Weddings) a little bit better. Check out these pics of some beautiful events I have captured there followed by my interview with Margaret!
Katie: Margaret, what do you love most about your job?
Margaret: I love meeting and working with all the diverse clients. Every couple has a different personality and a vision for how they want their special day to come together. Their personal touches and themes make each wedding unique and seeing their reaction the day of is very rewarding.
Katie: What makes the Tilton Mansion unique as a wedding venue?
Margaret: We only host one wedding a day, which provides each couple the attention to detail they deserve. In addition, we have a groomsβ room, a fabulous all-inclusive package, ambiance and historic presence.
Katie: Do you have a most memorable wedding?
Margaret: I have βpiecesβ of several weddings that were unforgettable. There was a bride whose daughter had passed away and wore an antique pendant that contained her daughterβs picture and a clip of her hair. Another who gave everyone a book and bookmark as a wedding favor, and a personal, handwritten note on every bookmark. There was also a bride who carried a bouquet adorned with a charm of her father and grandmother who had both recently passed.
In addition, I remember the wedding ceremony with a chair where a photo of the father-of-the-bride was placed.
There was also that time the fire alarm went off and everyone had to evacuate the building! Luckily it was before any guests had arrived, but the bride decided to have her photo taken on the fire truck. (side note from Katie: that’s amazing! I love that that bride made a fun memory out of it!)
And finally, there was the New Yearβs Eve wedding, which dropped 1,000 balloons at at the stroke of midnight.
Katie: What do couples love most about your venue?
Margaret: Our five-star reviews speak for themselves! We are accommodating, organized, responsive, detailed, professional, patient, flexible, efficient and our food is to die for! (you can find some of those 5 star reviews here)
So, if you’ve never been to the Tilton Mansion in Wilmington, call or email Margaret for a visit! Also, be on the lookout for a date for the next Whist Weddings show. The following are some highlights from the last wedding show they hosted. It was a GREAT day!
Thank you for visiting my blog today! This is the third in a series of venue spotlights. You can find the others here and here. If you need a photographer for your upcoming wedding or event, I’d love to chat. Get in touch!
